Women's Biblical Counseling

1/18/2016

Women, like men, are made in the image of God.  They experience many of the successes, failures, and challenges that men do.  But women are different than men and they tend to experience some issues more than others.  Some trials women commonly face include: anxiety, loneliness, depression, eating disorders, poor body image, marital strife, and insomnia.
Today, more than ever, women are forced to wrestle with all kinds of pressures at work and at home.  They are often expected to be perfect employees and still maintain their home, take care of the kids, serve their husbands, look like a models, and have social lives! Too often women feel overwhelmed with all of these expectations. As a result, women often get depressed, live in fear and anxiety, and move towards destructive and even tragic actions to cope with or to escape this pressure.  Add to these marital problems, behavioral problems with their children, a lack of social support, society’s emphasis on outward beauty, and a woman can easily find herself at the end of her rope. So where can a modern woman run to find help and hope?

Typically, she only has two options.
Option #1:
She can seek the help of her pastor or her church.  Ideally this is a wonderful option.  But in reality this option often is ineffective because much of the time the counselor is a man who struggles to understand the pressures a woman faces and how she thinks and feels.

Option#2:

She can seek the help of a psychologist or a psychiatrist.  We all need someone to talk to and these counselors can be really helpful.  But if a woman seeks counsel from someone sees life from a totally different worldview, although she might get some good practical advice, she will not get to the root of her problems and might even find herself urged to think and do things that go against God’s will for her life.

The Biblical Hope Option

At Biblical Hope, only women counsel women. Our women counselors understand the difficulties that women face because they too have faced these same difficulties and pressures.  In addition, our counselors know and love Jesus and believe in His power to save and transform the life of the most broken and desperate woman.

The great theologian John Owen wrote, “Here in this life, beholding the glory of the Lord [believers] are changed into his likeness. Hereafter they will be like Him for they will see Him as He is” (2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 John 3:2).  Our experienced counselors are not only ready to give you practical advice to deal with your problems, but are also ready to help you look away from your own problems and up and out to Jesus to find real help, hope, and transforming grace.
