Men's Biblical Counseling

4/10/2019

An Approach Just For Men
Being a man like Jesus in today’s society is as difficult as it has ever been.  Life is complex, we are constantly bombarded with messages that turn us away from God; we are often so confused we don’t even know what it means to be a true man anymore; and we don’t even truly know ourselves and why we do what we do.
Although men experience a wide variety of problems, we do tend to experience certain problems more than others: substance abuse, anger management, impulse control, lack of relational intimacy, loneliness, stress, fear because of the current economic crisis, and sexual addictions. Many men in our culture learn not to express their feelings and to deal with issues in a “logical or rational” way. Men are taught that being vulnerable is a bad thing. It is not uncommon for some men not only to hide how they are feeling, but also to not even know what they are feeling. We are often disconnected when it comes to knowing how we feel, opening up in our relationships, and allowing ourselves to be sensitive, gentle, and compassionate towards others.

But God did not intend for men to be like this.  Jesus, the perfect man and our model for true masculinity, could be both angry and full of joy, weeping and laughing, harsh and gentle.  When emotions are not handled the way God intended, when they are vented, suppressed, or denied altogether, other behaviors can manifest: addictions, compulsions, and avoidance behaviors. It is not surprising that some men feel safer expressing anger rather than hurt; that some men are working longer hours to avoid dealing with issues at home; that false intimacy is created in relationships and vulnerability is avoided, or that addictions and compulsive behaviors are implemented in order to escape the pressures or numb certain feelings.

What Biblical Hope Offers Men
Biblical Hope offers counseling specifically for men to find help, healing and hope in this confusing world.  There is hope, no matter how “stuck” you feel or how bad your problem is.  We are here to help you see God’s purposes in your life and to encourage, equip, and empower you to live a life full of joy, peace, and hope through the present power of Jesus Christ.
